Another magnificent herb included as Kofi 29 ingredient is Tongkat Ali or scientifically called as Eurycoma Longifolia Jack. Normally spotted as medium sized, slender rain forest tree but could abnormally grow to about 12 meters in height. The herbs known existence dates back to the 1700’s and native to Malaysia, Lower Burma, Thailand and Indonesia.
It is regarded by local natives as a tree that “cures 1,000 diseases” where natives use every part of the tree as medicine. Its medicinal benefits is said to be wide ranging, for its aphrodisiac properties and treatment of diverse ailments ranging from cuts and wounds, skin infection, fever, malaria, high-blood pressure and diabetes.
As with other ingredient in Kofi 29, Tongkat Ali herbs have great influence over the reproductive (sexual) gland. There has been scientific research worldwide and there have been favorable findings that qualify the herbs to contain several phytochemicals (plant chemicals) that support healthy testosterone levels (the sex hormone) required for the male sexual functions.
It has also been found that within Tongkat Ali, there is the existence of agents identified as glycoproteins , proven to be the libido boosting ingredients. Through increased testosterone, libido is enhanced.
Though the importance of testosterone is imminent in man, women’s adrenal glands and ovaries also produce testosterone albeit in smaller quantities. Scientific research affirmed that testosterone helps in improving sexual libido in women. Consequently, the symptoms of decreased energy and low sex drive during post menopause are attributed by lower levels of testosterone.
Testosterone promotes secondary sex characteristics, including appearance of facial hair, enlargement of the larynx (producing a deeper voice), sexual desire and sexual behavior. Testosterone also stimulates metabolism, promotes lipolysis (Burning of fat), increases the formation of red blood cells and accelerates muscle growth.
Tongkat Ali herbs has a powerful anabolic properties because it increases the energy production in the body by increasing ATP (Adenosine triphosphate), an energy rich chemical that is responsible for nearly all the energy production in the body. During strenuous exercises, when we experience fatigue, it is largely due to diminishing ATP which the body is incapable to replace in time.
A study in 2005 found that the herbs increased HDLs (high density lipoproteins), which are necessary for healthy arteries. Basically, HDLs can help stop the buildup of plaque in the arterial walls and lower the risk of heart attack.
A study by the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM) showed that the Eurycoma Longifolia Jack or Tongkat Ali (Pasak Bumi) contains anti-oxidant properties, a high level of SOD (Superoxide Dismutase), an anti-oxidant enzyme. The aqueous and methanol extracts of Tongkat Ali has an effect of scavenging superoxide and lipid peroxidation. This showed that Tongkat Ali herbs could inhibit the chain reaction of free radicals that could be harmful to the body system.
